Amantaka

Amantaka draws its name from the Sanskrit-derived word for ‘peace’ and combines it with taka, from Tipitaka, meaning ‘the teaching of the Buddha’ in Theravada scholastic literature. Set on a garden estate with a serene central swimming pool, the 24-suite property is housed in graceful white-walled, green-shuttered French colonial buildings. Located just south of sacred Mount Phousi, the property overlooks the Unesco-protected town of Luang Prabang, Laos' spiritual capital.

Famous for its remarkably well-preserved mix of traditional Lao and colonial French architecture, the town's main street lies within walking distance of Amantaka, and is lined with temples, boutiques, bakeries and restaurants. The property is also close to the banks of the Mekong River and to Luang Prabang’s fabled night market. Amantaka's dedicated staff will assist guests with planning visits to the town’s many historic sites, which include more than 30 golden-spired temples and the former Royal Palace, as well as suggesting ways to enhance their spiritual experience of Luang Prabang – from giving alms to the monks at dawn to receiving a traditional baci blessing.

Surrounded by shady verandas, the property's reception area, boutique, gallery and library are housed in an elegant French Colonial building that leads to a leafy courtyard. Here at the property's heart, guests will find the main pool, Aman Spa, Buddhist Learning Centre and Fitness Centre, along with 24 suites nearby, surrounded by a spacious grassy courtyard.

Amantaka’s suites vary in size from 70 to 120 square metres, and 16 offer private pools. There are eight Suites, four Pool Suites, eight Khan Suites, two Mekong Suites and two Amantaka Suites, all with spacious indoor and outdoor living areas.

Entered through louvered doors, suites offer light-filled living and sleeping areas, their lofty ceilings sheltering a central king-size bed. Bathrooms feature twin vanities, dressing areas, showers, toilets and separate island bathtubs. Each suite’s living space and bedroom opens onto an outdoor area shaded by indigenous trees, leading, in selected suites, to a private pool. The two standalone Amantaka Suites are surrounded by airy verandas and offer generous living rooms and spacious outdoor areas, including a garden, a private relaxation sala and a large pool.

Amantaka serves authentic Lao and western cuisine in a number of dining venues. The Dining Room provides an airy colonial ambience, while the Lounge Bar is the ideal spot for relaxing over an evening drink. The breezy Pool Terrace is a casual dining venue for lunch and dinner. Private dining can be arranged in a choice of secluded locations around the property.

Adjacent to the main pool, the Aman Spa offers guests an exceptional personalised experience. Four luxurious two-person treatment rooms each feature a dressing area, treatment area, private Jacuzzi and individual relaxation room. Hydrotherapy facilities are also available. An indulgent treatment menu of massages, facials, wraps and scrubs incorporates traditional Southeast Asian techniques, ingredients infused with local herbs, and Aman's signature organic skincare products. Amantaka’s Fitness Facility houses a gym and a yoga studio, and a private tennis court is situated a short distance from the property.
